Projects

ALARM (2021)

Link

Developed an integrated system of multiple unmanned aerial systems (UAS), sensor technology, data acquisition and transmission, airspace surveillance, and flight control, specifically designed to provide aerial support for rescue and disaster-response operations.

Technologies used:

  • OpenHD to transfer video
  • Raspberry Pi
  • MapLibre
  • Integration of MAVLink sensor data
  • Integration of FLARM/ADSB sensor data

ALADIN (2022–2023)

Link

Established a dynamic, satellite-assisted 5G campus network to provide a complete real-time situational picture for public safety and emergency response organizations (BOS) during disaster operations, and to operate connected field equipment.

5G Testbed BB (2023–2024)

Link

Set up a 5G mobile network at Schönhagen Airfield (EDAZ) providing high-bandwidth, real-time data transmission for aviation applications involving Extended Reality (XR) and Augmented Reality (AR). Within the "Automated Ground Services" use case, implemented automated inspection of airport operational areas (runways, aprons, taxiways) using a rover and drone to detect surface damage and obstacles.

Screen recording from the “Automated Ground Services” use case at Schönhagen Airfield: mission control with live rover telemetry and camera feed over the 5G campus network. No audio.

AMADEUS (2025–2026)

Link

Developing a mobile, drone-based communication infrastructure for disaster response and rescue operations, built around a heavy-lift drone serving as an airborne communications platform. The system combines an integrated 5G base station enabling a local communications network independent of existing infrastructure, allowing responders to exchange voice, video, and sensor data in near real time; onboard sensors for situational assessment; integration of additional unmanned aerial and ground systems (UAV/UGV) for reconnaissance of hazardous areas; and a mobile ground station controlling the drone and processing data for field teams. Coordinated by TH Wildau, contributing expertise in aviation engineering, unmanned aerial systems, and AI-based data analysis — with a focus on developing the drone platform and automated person-detection for rescue and disaster-response use. Project partners include Fraunhofer FOKUS, CADUS e.V., Roboverse Reply, and TU Berlin; funded by BDBOS.
